Hima Cement Limited is the second-largest manufacturer of cement in Uganda, producing an estimated 850,000 metric tonnes annually. The leading cement manufacturer in the country, Tororo Cement Limited, has a production capacity of over 1 million metric tonnes annually.
Job Summary: The Junior Projects Engineer – Civil will provide assistance to ongoing project works in terms of technical capability, administrative support, ensuring that standard materials are being used, and a safe working environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Undertake risk assessments and ensure safety at the workplace.
- Bring any risks to the attention of the company management and if necessary halt work until it is safe to work.
- Ensure that all the paperwork is available, reviewed and understood before setting out to site.
- Complete all the necessary job assessments, permits, time sheets and other documentation as required.
- Assist the Project Engineer from time-to-time to determine the scope of projects and designs in line with LafargeHoicim design criteria, support the process of selection and project feasibility analysis.
- Identify and address any changes to scope, investigate the problem and provide engineering solutions to support the planning and execution stages of projects.
- Site walk-through and planning for installation process.
- Record any changes to scope and “as build” drawings as agreed by line manager.
- On-sight installation supervision/management.
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time-to-time by the line manager.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The Hima Cement Junior Projects Engineer – Civil must be a Graduate with a BSC in Civil Engineering.
- At least two years’ working experience in a construction environment.
- Knowledge of safety procedures and standards.
- Knowledge of project management techniques.
- Technical knowledge of civil construction projects.
- Proficient in project scheduling software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
- Basic computer knowledge with applications like AUTOCAD, SolidWorks, MS Excel,
- Word and PowerPoint.
- Ability to read, write and comprehend drawings and plans.
- Quick decision making skills and ability to solve problems “on-the-fly”.
- Highly organised and must be attentive to details, accuracy and meticulous.
- Self-starter with ability to learn quickly.
- Proactive not reactive.
- Good listening and verbal communication acumen.
- Foster team spirit, disciplined and respectable before team.
- Loyalty and respect for the organization.
- Anticipation/Initiative.
- Result oriented.
